Introduction: Hello My name is Sebastian Szewczyk and I am currently in the graduate studies program working on my ESL/Billingual Education Endorsement. I graduated from Saint Xavier Univeristy in 2012 with a degree in/Education. Currently, I work as a subsitute for Chicago Public Schools and I enjoy learning a lot throughout my experience as a subsitute. I do find myself missing my own classroom and am waiting (impatiently) for the right opportunity. I speak Polish fluently and plan on using it in the classroom to help Polish speakers learn English and to continue speaking Polish. I speak limited conversational Spanish and am trying to learn the language with hopes of speaking it fluently in a few years. In my off time I enjoy reading various fiction novels, as well as historical and current non-fiction books. I also love to spend time with my niece and nephew as well as my dog. (Both Pictured below)
From this toolkit I hope to show current ESL teachers and my Saint Xavier Colleagues how a wikispace can be a very useful tool to be used in the classroom. I also plan on providing many teachers with different tools that they can use that can be helpful for their ESL classrooms. The activities that I will present in this tool-kit will be ones that meet state standards, and can be implemented to lesson plans which follow the SIOP model. They have been carefully selected in order to meet the standards. Many of the activities have been adapted from other lesson plans or teachers in order to meet the SIOP model. Various activities will be present and explained here that will be helpful for many teachers who teach English Language Learners. I believe that this tool kit benefits me as well. The research that I will perform throughout this tool kit will give me an opportunity to look at activities which I would not have seen before. I will also be given an opportunity to adapt these activities for English Language Learners. This tool kit will also give me a lot of activities which I can implement in my future classroom.
